Day 5; TGIF

WELL... today started off awesome actually. I'm not going to lie, I'm really pleased that I've gone nearly a whole week with NO BINGES, no shit eating and no weird cravings.. I'll admit It has crossed my mind wether or not I should have a couple of rice cakes, some peanut butter, here and there; but I managed to become more aware, and I KNEW that I couldn't just have a few, just not yet - I didn't want to risk falling into an out right binge. I'm becoming more aware of the signs if you say, which feels good!

I've been keeping myself busy, which has led to distracting myself about my weight and where I am currently at. I'm still pretty self conscious about my legs... don't like my quads or my bum atm! But I'm looking forward to slowly leaning them out and toning them up... healthily.

I've always been one of those people who lets their anxiety get to them. The amount of times I've cancelled on people, not picked up my phone, lied, not shown up to something or made excuses because of my anxiety is ridiculous.. and I'm only starting to admit it. It stops me from doing so much!!! I'm so sick of living in fear... but I know its going to take time to chip away at each of these things and isin't going to happen all at once.
I still to this day struggle to pick up my phone from anxiety.

I crossed one barrier this morning, exercising with somebody else.
I usually get such bad anxiety that I won't be able to get in my zone, get my workout done, burn enough calories, I have to socialize, I have to talk.. but none of that happened. Me and a good friend, Margaret went and did the stairs. She asked how many times I go up, I said 5. When really I do 3. haha.
So, headphones in and we smashed out 5 + 10 squat jumps at the top of each climb - haha, I did 5!! Boombbb. Mind over matter, huh? Thanks Marg, I don't think you know how out of my comfort zone I got, it was great to see you x

So movinggggggggg on, did my errands for the day - was supppper hungry and hadn't packed my meals ( I need to be more proactive here ) so I stopped at the supermarket and bought cottage cheese, LSA mix, walnuts, blueberries and mushed it all together! SUCESSSS!

I'm slowly building back a healthy relationship with food, I can feel it :)
I've been eating off smaller plates too try control my portions.. and taking my own advice seems to be working for once! Maybe I should do this more often haha.

Then the day has kinda gone to shit.
I dropped my new phone (LG G2) on the concrete and completely fucked up the screen.
SO pissed off at myself, was like my first responsibility besides a kitten and I fucking broke it!! ARG, It's amazing how emotionally attached I was to it.. I cried over it lol. All my photos, All my work, AFOSFHISUDHFISDUHFISUDHFISUDHFUIS
I think I more or less cried over the fact I'm paying 89 bucks a month for nothing now.. my own fault. Funnily enough I got the "I told you so" .. I said that to myself too lol. "You told yourself so" haha.
I'm kinda working for myself atm too... So financially I'm in a shit hole and need to be more proactive.
I seriously just despise working for people, it doesn't mix well with my personality. I'm terrible at taking orders and just go and do my own thing or try and break the rules. I'll be the first to admit I get to apoint where I nearly get fired my job and I'll just quit. I still struggle with figuring this out.. so for now, It's up to me to be accountable for getting design and photography work freelance. It's hard... but I am very lucky to have a partner and a family who does there best to help out.

So I'm lying here on my bed after a big wah about my phone realizing I can't get it fixed under warranty. So for all those reading this - don't text me.

Really need to start sorting my shit out!! I find I prioritize on stupid shit, and don't focus on the basics... so I'm going to try and get the basics right one at a time. I can talk out of my assssss and motivate a baby to walk but I couldn't for the life try and help myself haha.

One day at a time.
One baby step at a time.

No photos today because no phone.. Wah :(

Thank fucking god it's Friday lol.

Day 4; A monkeys vacancy

Well, todays been really weird - in the sense that I was waiting for a day like today to pop its head out of the water.

Sometimes, foods not ALL of my problems. Thank goodness (It feels like it some days)

My foods been spot on today, which is good considering my emotions are all up in the air - so, I'm taking that as a positive! Usually I would try and immerse myself in food to hide how I'm feeling, but I've let it all rush out today.

I went for my first run/walk 'thing' in ages this morning around the park, I was exxtreeeemley apprehensive about going.. anybody that used to be able to run a 1/2 marathon in 1:29 will know how frustraing it is now to not be able to run 200m without dying and feeling like a heffalump! But hey; got to start from somewhere! I was glad I managed to push through the run/walk combo till the end and didn't take any shortcuts like I usually do!

I am feeling good, mainly on the inside this morning. Feeling positive about how I'm looking, and having faith in the process for once. It's only the beginning and I KNOW it's going to get tougher and tougher, but If I'm feeling good, I'm going with it haha.

Lunch time came around annnd after a photoshoot I did at the gym (yes, I'm a freelance photographer) I realised I hadn't really prepped any meals for today! BIG NO NO!
This COULD have been a chance for sushi... it crossed my mind! But I drove myself all the way to the supermarket starving, walked straight past all the treats I would usually buy and got some cottage cheese, avocado, almonds and a small fruit salad. Problem solved!

Then a wall just hit me this afternoon.
It usually just takes a few triggers of a negative attitude of someone around me, who isin't intentionally trying to take a stab at me but I let my guard down and it feels like it.
So, this hit me and I just crumbled. Have you ever had that feeling, when you can't even describe the emotion you just want to cry and cry. I cried and cried.. it was such a deep sadness that came from within, and I'm tracing it back to me trying to suppress a lot of stuff as of late regarding the miscarriage. My partner wasn't having the best day... So I couldn't console to him for comfort, it was going to be up to me... I sat on the ground for about an hour just in a mess, everything, literally everything just came crashing down on my heart at once and I couldn't bear it. I stormed up, and instead of just going to lie down in the park I went for a walk up my fave steps. Only did it two times, but it was enough to feel the fresh breeze against my face, and the sunlight on the back of my neck. I sat down at the top of the stairs, and just breathed. Just stopped. I felt good.

I'm still in a weird mood writing this... I don't like it when there's tension in a relationship of mine with friends or partner, especially when I'm so far gone emotionally and really struggling.. it pushes me over the edge. I struggle with voicing how I feel, but writing this has made me more at peace... I don't have all the answers to peoples problems, but I do have a pretty good pair of ears to listen!!

I just went for a walk before to the park near my house, which is so beautiful. I sat there with my headphones in with my face on the grass and just cried for a bit. It felt.. refreshing? I don't know, I don't even know but I'm telling you this anyway because it happened and I need to vent!!! ARG I don't know WHY I'm feeling like this, esp when I've been on a roooolll of positivity lately, but I am wary that I'm going to have good AND bad days, and I must be prepared to face the demons either way.

Over & Out for today,

Sam x

Day 3; Baby steps: a short story following the life of a pie plate

Don't ask about the title of this blog haha. Angie Hoffer you'll be proud I named it this hahahaha.

SO! Last night, as I said in my last post I was going out for tea and bowling! Usually, I get horrible social anxiety in social situations and find it mega hard to focus - but for once, I actually had no anxiety and forgot about all my worries and the shit that has been going on for the whole evening.. I haven't laughed that hard in ages. I had the most yummy clean grilled chicken Mediterranean salad from Nando's and we went bowling; Seriously, I had in my mind that I SUCK at bowling.... friggen like the first two bowls I got strikes hahaha! Outdone myself there, even bet Josh in the first round... #girlpower haha! Nah, lost my mojo at the end of it and just starting flinging the ball left right and center.. may as well have been playing ping pong lol!
But so so grateful for my wonderful bosses and best friends; Tiare and James - seriously, I owe a lot to you guys, for giving me no anxiety in the work place and being so genuine and caring and supportive - I'm forever grateful xx

Got home from bowling last night, and felt supppper hungry... Was two minded about eating something.. I was like, "Well, I've had such a good day eating maybe I should just go to bed on an empty stomach to wake up lean" ... but I don't want to be latching onto the mentality of this, so I felt like a wee clean treat.. I mixed up 1scoop chocolate casein, cacao nibs, 1 (hefty) tbsp of almond butter, 1 tsp honey and 1tbsp coconut flour.. literally mixed in into a mush and it taste like cake haha! Probably could have been cleaner.. but I decided not to beat myself up about it.. usually I would have downed that whole tub of honey and AB just been in a state with rice cakes.. so this was a good way to ween myself off haha.

Woke up this morning... huuungry! YAY! I love this feeling when I get excited about breakfast lol.. seriously, sleep is like the ultimate time machine to breakfast! So I enjoyed 1/2c organic Rice porridge, 3x egg whites, PB2 sprinkled on top w cinnamon and stevia! Try to limit my protein powder intake and just want to cleanse out my system with whole foods so egg whites are my alternative protein source! :)

Went for a walk up the hills again - this time did 1 more upwards climb that last time, so was happy I pushed myself a teeny tiny bit. Took about 30 mins in total. I'm enjoying just MOVING again.. and not putting pressure on myself. Feeling a little less bloated - YAY!!!! It's the small things of FEELING GOOD that make me happier.

I seem to have always adapted the mentality, that I have to look fit to train. It's weird how the mind works, I have been putting off going to the gym lately just because I feel so shit and look so shit (in my mind) and I feel that everyone is going to 'judge' how I look because I'm not in my 'comp' shape.... waaaaaaataaa retard... So, I'm going to get OUT of my comfort zone tonight and actually GO to the gym and just lift some things!!! With no pressure, just get back into the routine and do my best to focus on ME and not what other people think. It's weird, I tell myself that I don't care what other people think... but then I actually find myself stopping myself from doing something because I do care deep down... Maybe you should take the time to sit back and reflect on yourself and see what you could be doing better, or what's stopping you.

Food-wise I'm going day by day; so far, so good. I'm weary that I WILL face some hurdles, it's usually around the weekends when I get anxiety about 'cheat meal' ... so, I'm going to try a different approach and REMOVE the cheat meal mentality, and just enjoy some whole foods for once.. It's going to be a push and shove but I have faith that I can do it, and I have been telling myself daily that CHANGE is found in the daily routine.. You've gotta change something you do daily to get the results you are after. Instead of what I have been doing recently.. is just sitting there look at pics and stuff thinking, "Faar, I wish i had that! Or, I want that" .. without realizing I gotta get off me bum and put in the work instead of always half assing everything.

I have still been in a broken heart state from what has happened regarding the miscarriage recently.. I have never felt like this before, but I have been receiving the most amazing messages of support and love from everyone who has been through the same thing, more than once too. I'm astounded at how strong the woman being can be!
It was such a hard decision at first, not keeping the baby or keeping the baby... Me, personally, I was SO torn.. as the motherly loving and nuturing side for me hung onto it like a magnet and wanting to produce that love. It's always going to be a battle between the head and heart... but I'm telling myself that it wasn't meant to be, that bubba KNEW I would live with the guilt for the rest of my life, so he (I have had a few dreams and visions to myself lately, that I feel he would have been a beautiful wee boy) knew it wasn't the right time, and left for natural causes in order to help heal my heart. And I'm thankful for that, and also for myself having the strength to voice how I'm feeling and be honest and open. It feels very empowering.

I'm thankful, EVERY SINGLE DAY for the amazing man I have at my side - I love him with my whole heart, and am so blessed to have the support that he gives me. I wouldn't have it any other way. I dont give a fuck if thats cheeeeesey ahah, it's the truth and love should always be crazy madness and beautiful.

I've got a busy day ahead, lots of design work to chip away at and I'm heading in to see some of my faves from cityfitness and bringing them some protein balls!!

I'm no "qualified" nutritionist and/or trainer.. I'm just willing to do what WORKS for me and makes ME happy... that doesn't mean what works for me, will work for you!
Experiment. Fail. Fall down.
But always get back up and do it differently if it didn't work. You may even make the same mistake more than once; but that's okay. We all do. Fuck, I do it everyday.
DONT.
GIVE.
UP.
There are ALWAYS mindset changes, and other changes that can help you on your journey to well-being that you apply - if you just take the time to listen to within.
I am looking to compete next year.. and I'm excited for you all to follow my journey. I'm not going to beat myself up over it, except I'm going to take it slow and know that I am under the best guidance possibly by my coaches, trainer and best friends and family. As I know they have my health and wellbeing and mental state of mind in their best interests.

Here's to another day of clean eating, smiles and training - and being nice to me for once :)

Day 2: Rainy days and getting down to business

Alllrighty, day twos going good so far haha. I actually feel really good writing about my day... it makes me make sense of things and help me prioritize a bit more and I get to vent all the shifty things... if your in a rut start doing a daily journal.. you don't have to share it, just do it for your own piece of mind.

So got up first thing and I felt real good inside. I feel less bloated, obviously hormones are settling down after all the stress I have been through. Woke up excited for breakfast for a change.. lately I just haven't wanted to stomach anything!! So I had 1/2c oats, 3x egg whites and some PB2 and cinnamon.. along w all my vitamins.

Took my fatburner, roxylean this morning too and had the worst niacin flush... it feels like your skin is sunburnt and somebody's rubbing you on carpet lol. Its just an adverse reaction.. it's pretty rare but totally fine, so if you have this experience from a fat burner or pre trainer then don't freak lol!!! One thing I am really focussing on is not being too reliant on fat burners, and making sure I'm putting full focus into my meals. I don't take one everyday just every couple of days w breakfast. After all the years of drug abuse in an being cautious as to what my chemicals are doing, esp w what's been going on regarding pregnancy.

Did a 30m stair walk.. I Just took it real slow and did my best to enjoy it... fuuckkkk I notice the few extra kgs when running or walking And it sucks... but I'm just sticking in and doing my best to not let it get to me.
We all gotta start somewhere.

Meal 2 n 3 down all gravy, I actually enjoyed them!! 😊
Drinking water as often as i can... I'm a shocker lol so I add some aminos and it makes life easier.

I'm making it easier by just going day by day... if I look at how far I have to go I feel like crying and throwing in the towel.. but looking at it As if I have 7 days to make a difference and each day counts it's muuuch more manageable.

Going out for tea to nandos and going bowling... first time I have gone out since all this shit has gone down!! I'm a lil nervous but I have the best company. .. baby steps 😉

Its about 5pm now and I would have had a binge by about 2pm, andddd I haven't. I've been thinking about food all day seriously it's driving me nuts... but I'm just keeping myself busy.

I'm feeling good.. well better physically. Not as bloated.. still not happy w where I am but I'm better than I was yesterday. I seem to have all the answers.. it's just a matter of listening to my own advice and applying it.

4 days no binges! Yay.

Day One: Getting back on track.

Well, I have decided to blog daily or every couple of days on my progress, more or less going thru the crazy shit I think about. Also will touch on my meals, how my eating habits are going, my training and how I feel physically and emotionally.

Actually getting out of bed and moving was hard enough to be honest. I am struggling to accept the amount of weight I have put on in such a short period of time... my partner says it's not even that bad and I still look fine... I don't know why I don't believe that more, except I sit here focusing on how huge my legs feel and the fact I'm far from a six pack.
This image... this feeling of perfection, this so called "standard" I set for  myself is always so far off how I actually am, and I feel like a piece of shit for it.

Im trying to be kind.
I've just been pregnant for 7 weeks and went through the emotions of both abortion and miscarriage.
Cut yourself some slack Murphy.

I was actually really good with my food today.. for once. I'm going to go a whole month with noooo peanut butter and noooo rice cakes. Its all or nothing for me. I've been consciously drinking heaps of aminos and my meals today have been yoghurt n fruit and grains, chicken and spinach w kumara, and a big chicken salad w almonds.

It hasn't been much but to be honest I have lost my appetite so I literally just shut up and ate them... and it worked.

I may even go for a run tonight.
I'm trying to make a conscious effort to remember how eating good feels...
If I had been having a binge I would have still be eating by now (it's 7pm) And the night would be a write off.

Today's been hard emotionally... I struggle to even focus on my work.. thoughts of what has recently happened keep swarming in, and there's a huge uproar at home atm with my mum and her partner.. and its all too much.
Some days I just want to hide from everything.

Luckily I have my wee kitten Charlie.. he's probably the one slice of happiness I need right now.

So.. that was today basically.
Day one down.... its going to be a slow process but I would rather that than a quick fix.

Sam over n out ✌

New Outlook, New Challenges.

I didn't actually think to much of post-comp, I literally had never felt so motivated after my comp! I went straight back to the hotel and just started eating and stuffing my face, watching as my body absorbed all the carbs and I felt so lean and full and AWESOME.
Note to self; This doesn't last forever lol.
I went out for dinner down in Queenstown with my partner and friends and we had the time of our lives, so many laughs and just real nice company. Just what I needed to finish off the weekend, I've never felt so high on life. Seriously.

I received a message that evening - from Janere, a beautiful women who is the mother and owner of well established fitness model team "Fit Angels" over in Adelaide. She wanted me on her team!
I had never EVER thought I'd ever be offered an opportunity like that, it was such a humbling feeling known someone had been watching me and wanted me to be a part of their family.
I was so excited!

As soon as we arrived home after comp, I got home.. and felt so overtaken by the fact that I could eat absolutely anything in the pantry that I wanted. I was so overwhelmed, I almost felt like NOT eating because I couldn't decide. But I liked eating, so I just did it anyways. I went straight back to my bloody rice-cakes and carried on smashing back the whole tub of peanut butter, the whole tub of honey, about 5 bananas and 2 packs of rice-cakes. Ugh. Here we go, again. Okay.. Na, I'll just start eating clean again on Monday.
So, back on the same comp diet I was.. just eating my chicken and rice and veges... But, I just couldn't be fucked eating! I was so over eating all the time. So I just would eat quite sporadically.. I tried to keep my eating to every 3 hours but it was really just all over the place. I was just doing a bit of light cardio in the morning on the treadmill, but even that was a friggen mission. I was so damn over it.
Then it got about 2 weeks into me trying to maintain this lean physique and I just abbbbsolutely blew out. My cravings hit the roof, and it was back to the rice-cakes and peanut butter again. I got into a baaaad habit of buying heaps of protein bars from the gym I was working at - protein cookies, protein bars, whatever I could gorge on. I had done it now, I had to just keep going and drive it into the ground. For some reason I felt that it would make me feel better about it all. I wasn't even hungry. I was just eating for the sake of eating.

I'd feel like absolute shit when I got home. I'd go start cooking my partners meals for the next day, and I had this obsession with eating just plain cooked white rice, covering it in mayo, chicken salt and sweet chilli and cheese. It taste like heaven I swear haha. So I'd end up eating the 2 cups of rice I'd cooked for him and think "fuck" ... So, I had to go cook some more and do my best to try not to eat it.

Ugh. I would wake up the next day, bloated, puffy and feeling so fat. But I'd get straight back into it the next day; As much as I hated the skin I was in, as much as I wanted to rip off my skin. I'd just keep going - Eating my meals as clean as possible. The binge would have usually hit on a Wednesday, then it would get to Saturday; And I'd scheduled a cheat. And I literally could not wait for the cheat. I would start eating at around 3pm, sometimes It would be 12. I'd smash back a few rice balls in secret, then a protein bar, some chocolate, some chocolate licorice (seriously, that shiz is my face - those RJ's logs.. don't put them near me lol) Then I'd go home and cook up a bowl of sushi rice, add in the sushi vinegar, add teriyaki sauce, mayo and avocado and smash that back. Then I'd pull out the rice cakes and smash back a whole pack with full tub of peanut butter, full tub of honey and just feel like I was going to explode. I'd finish my eating rampage around 9pm. So that was like, A whole solid 6 hours of eating non stop. Ugh.

What an idiot! I couldn't get my head around this whole "cheat meal" mentality. I just wanted to eat and eat and eat ALL THE FRIGGEN FOOD!!! Why am I going back to square one?? I felt so fluffy, fat and disgusting.

So, I had ended up back at my start weight before my prep eventually after a few weeks of trying to hold off on binges, but giving in. I felt like I was getting suppppper watery in my stomach, and I just couldn't pick what was wrong! I was honestly just so stuck, so horribly stuck. I was following my diet to the TEE with the new meal plan I had been given to try reverse diet me, I seriously felt like I was going reverse though. I couldn't tell if it was my head, or just me being an absolute idiot.
I struggled to get motivated with training - I started sprinting, and felt my legs finally starting to lean out. However, I was just always SO HUNGRY and my tummy was feeling so damn bloated. I couldn't figure out what the shit was going on, I ended up going a whole week perfect, and even ended up going out for tea and enjoying a meal without pigging out. I felt so good! But then Wednesday came around, and the old rice cakes ended up drawing me back in again and it was all out the window.
Fucks sake. I'll try again tomorrow. Try, try, try again! WHY COULDN'T I GET MY HEAD AROUND THIS PREP?!?! I had around 18 weeks till FitX, but I wanted to do so much better than last time, but I honestly couldn't get myself motivated to train let alone eat my meals.

Then, I realized it had been 6 days since I missed my period.
I freaked. Fuck.
So, I urgently made a doctors appointment.
Mum came with me to the doctors, and after a urine test the test turned out positive.
Calculated on my last period, I was 5 weeks pregnant.

Holy Fuck.
My heart, just fell to the ground.
I literally feel I went out of body, I had just escaped my mind to cope. I welled with tears, I just felt like crying and crying and crying.
It all made sense now.
I didn't know who to tell, how to tell, or even how to tell it to myself.
I had literally JUST gotten my life back on track, I wasn't even earning enough money to raise a child! All of these thoughts were just racing through my mind 100 mile an hour, stressing and my anxiety peaked so much - I was so afraid. I was actually petrified.
Yet, the days following that, as emotional as they were, I grew to feel a connection with what was inside me; I felt a love I'd never ever felt before, I spose anybody else that's a mother will be able to describe this.
Being in such an emotional rampage, it all made sense.
In my head, the monkey said, "Well, your pregnant now. You may as well go and eat whatever you want" - So I did.
I went to the supermarket and brought a few packets of white wheat wraps, filled them with nutella and ate them. Then I ate licorice. About 5 packets of it. Then I ate rice cakes, a full packet and a full tub of nutella.
I felt so horrible. So fat. So bloated, and I was pregnant. What the flying fuck.
This has honestly only happened in the past 3 weeks, so this is my most up to date honest blog.
A few days passed of emotional and touching moments with my partner, and after long discussion and heart breaking sleeps; we had decided not to keep the baby. It wasn't the right time, and on reflection of both our parents relationships and how its affected us. Both sides of our families were a bit broken - and we don't want that for our child. We would want to provide it with everything it possibly could deserve. My mothering side of me longed for something to love and cherish, but the logical side of me just kept saying "Wait. Just wait."

So we went through the process of scans and bloods, the scan however - was confusing; They thought for a moment the baby was growing outside of my uterus as it was quite hard to see what was going on. I was scared.

I hated the weight I was gaining. I felt disgusting, like a whale, fat, bloated. I couldn't handle it. I felt so unmotivated and lost - my whole life has been tipped upside down! I couldn't even be motivated to train or move or even have a shower. I felt like a fucking slob.

I kept thinking 'what if' - all that would go through my mind is, what if this was ME. I wouldn't be here today. And that really broke my heart; I longed and had a spiritual side of me that believed in fate. So I felt guilty, horrible and was heart broken with the choice we had made.
I loved this child, and it wasn't even really anything yet. It was however, a soul that had come into my life and given me hope.

Then, the start of this week I started bleeding. It was just spotting initially, nothing major. But gradually, it increased and became it's heaviest by Thursday. After getting home from picking up Josh, I experienced a pain I had never felt before. It was bearable at first, but then it increased to a deep throb - as if someone had shoved a knife up my bum to be honest.
I freaked out, I couldn't bear it anymore. I started to break down into waterworks, and both my Mum and Josh were worried.

I ended up being taken into A & E.
I was so scared, what was happening to me? I was having an inkling that it would have been a miscarriage as it wasn't normal to be bleeding this heavy and in this much pain. Either that or I was hemorraging.

So, after some blood test and my bleeding being monitored for a few hours the Doctor finally came.
I couldn't have been more blessed, to have such a calm, relaxed and friendly Doctor - and it was a male, which made me feel safe and not stressed. I am still very thankful.
So, they did an examination to see what was going on, and the look on the doctor's face literally made me freak. I started shaking uncontrollably. The nurse squeezed my hand. I saw him rush to grab a bowl and a large pair of surgical scissors; I literally felt like fainting but I held in their.
A few minutes later and the procedure had past.
It felt like something had been lifted out of me. A weight had been removed, it felt like a soul had lifted out of my body. It was both the most spiritual but emotional experience of my life.

I was still shaking, the Doctor relaxed me.

They had removed what was causing the blockage, and it was our baby.

I felt so weird. So lost. It had all happened so quickly, nothing had sunk in.
I asked to say my goodbyes, I felt like it was needed for my heart.

The doctor asked if I was okay,  And, funnily enough I felt okay at the time. I thanked him kindly and the nurse, for making my feel at ease throughout everything.

Josh and my dad came back in, and I honestly just needed to be held.
I'm so thankful, for my man. He's been nothing but all I've ever needed, I'm so so grateful and my whole heart goes to this man for everything he's provided me, and everything he is to me.
I felt safe in his arms, like nothing could touch me.

The drive home was emotional; Some music was playing in the car that just took me into a trance, and made me reflect on life and how far and the experiences I'd been through, and how precious life is. How easily, I could not be here.

When I shut my eyes, I can see our childs face. I don't know whether this is me just going crazy, or me being more spiritually in touch with the experience. But, he is beautiful.
And it makes me cry, out of happiness and hope that one day we will be blessed again when the timing is right.

So. This leaves me to where I am today.
I'm still in a bit of pain, and I honestly still feel like a whale.
It puts in perspective how all the body image issues I face are so stupid, but they are so strong in myself and I still battle with them everyday.

I've been trying to keep myself as balanced as possible - I had a small binge yesterday of rice-cakes, but to be honest I haven't had a binge in a while. I've been trying to keep as balanced as possible with my eating eating rice cakes in LIMITED quantities, chicken sometimes and yoghurt. I haven't felt like eating a lot, I just lost my appetite completely after the emotional hell war.

So, where does that leave me?
I feel disgusting. It's been a challenge, mentally. The amount of weight I've put on from no training and just binges from this emotional experience has left me back where I started; It's just exhausting.

I know I can do it. I know I can feel good about myself.
But I want to do it right this time. I want to do it all for me; because I value now how precious my life is.

So, I'm here now. I'm going to post a picture this week of how I'm looking, for progress purposes, not in a sense I want to judge myself but I want to be okay with how I look at the moment.
I want to focus on the beautiful parts of my soul; The love I have, the love I can give and also.. eventually, the love I establish for myself.

So, here goes nothing.
Here goes to the next beginning of the next journey.

A choice for change

Well, I'm sitting here thinking "Jesus, where do I even carry on with this"
But I suppose a good place would be to start, from where I started this year, and where I am now. And the various mental challenges I have faced, along with my honest and most truthful opinion and feelings towards the matter.

I write this for me.
Seriously, I can get myself in SUCH a slump sometimes - but writing this is giving me clarity. Giving me purposes, like I said at the start; I'm putting together the pieces.

I started off this year the COMPLETE opposite of my obsessive exercising self; I was doing NO training whatsoever, living in my gypsy pants, eating nutella in wraps and peanut butter on toast daily. I was unemployed, sleeping all day, fending for myself financially and just completely lost.
The only good thing at the TIME that I had was a home with no anxiety, and my wonderful partner that is still with me today. I was oblivious, and unwilling to accept any help from the outside.

This lazy lifestyle led to me just not having that 'passion' for training. I was embarrassed. I'd put on so much weight, I was far to freaking embarrassed to set foot in a gym. None of my old clothes fitted and I just felt like balling into tears. I cried about this on a daily basis. I even took a cycle of Clenbuterol, in hopes that I would get skinny. I was looking for the easy shortcut; I was addicted to fat burners (which I now realise were just a substitute for my drugs) - Which I would smash daily, in order to try suppress my appetite. It would work, I wouldn't eat all day but around 7pm the binge would start and I'd be smashing back icecream, toast, wraps anything with bread. I was doing it because I was so mad at myself for getting into the situation. I had no self control over this; and I was afraid I was slipping into my old binge habits.

I was put onto anti depressants, to try balance my mood swings and they helped heaps.
When someone says they are depressed, it can be hard to know how to react and how to help.
It's the deepest sadness, the most dark and cloudy feeling; You feel nothing, you feel there is nothing and there's absolutely no point. You can't see the help, you just see the bottom of the hole you are falling down.

From the Anorexia, I've had complications that are due to the way I mentally WIRED myself in that stage of my life.
I find it hard to make decisions, I can be a compulsive liar, I like keeping secrets about things, I like to delve into what I shouldn't know - Always gaining too much information, which was a bad habit to have and lost me many friends and family members due to my ignorance. I could only give enough energy for myself, but even then I was ignoring anything important I actually needed to focus on. I'd just sit on facebook all day and push myself further into that negative slump.

It was time to take action.

I started, SLOWLY, going back to the gym again.
It was so hard, I'd look in the mirror and want to burst into tears. I couldn't stop looking at how fat I was. I'd do 3 minutes of the treadmill and just want to get off and go and eat something in despair.
I tried to put myself on a 'diet' as such, eating intuitively and what I felt like. Falafel, wraps, cheese, tomato's, avocado's, toast, banana, chicken, salad.

I look back at all this now; And my body actually needed this break, MENTALLY more than anything. It was hard, but at least I wasn't driving myself into my Anorexic ground hole. But, I am all or nothing so of course it went the other way with WEIGHT GAIN. Why couldn't I just be BALANCED???? Why couldn't I fit my old jeans??? WHY WHY WHY WHY was ALL I would ask myself.

I stuck with fluffing around in the gym, and I slimmed down about 3-4kgs, which even THAT was hard - goes to show how much shit my metabolism has been through.
I was doing more or less freelance photography, hanging with my partner and experiencing the world as is. I had been drug free for at least 3 months, and I was feeling the chemical imbalances. I would seek anything from pre-workouts to turbo's to try and get a high.

I struggled to be motivated to train, I was constantly high on drugs when I was training in 2012 - and then when I stepped foot into a gym this year. I didn't know what to do. I felt horrible, weird, foreign. I just wanted to leave.
What had I gotten myself into???
I KNEW everything I had to do, I'd done it before when I had started comp prep in 2012 and 'pulled out' - but I just didn't want to fucking do it. I was looking for every single excuse in the book.

I slowly started shaping up, and finally I was feeling a little bit better. A little more confident. Still not confident enough to wear shorts though, which made me sad, I just hid in my gypsy pants all day at home. It's not a nice feeling, feeling ashamed of your body.

I found a job, at Cityfitness. Probably one of the best things that had happened to me to date;
I had routine, and had a bit more purpose than just sitting at home thinking myself into my own wee hell hole. Everything happened at once from here, from working long days I wasn't at home to be binging, I was forced away from my food and forced to think and work hard to distract myself, it was mentally draining - and really left no time for 'me time'. I had no recollection of what 'me' time was - I can't physically remember the last time I wasn't worrying about something or driving myself further into a hole. I was always, ALWAYS, looking for a problem to consume me.
The mental tiredness from over-working drove me to the edge; I got sick of people, and it took a toll on my relationship. It's hard, for a partner, to sit on the side and see this happen to somebody you love.

Then, out of the blue, I needed purpose.
I decided to compete.
For me, to challenge me and to prove myself I could do it. I have a habit of overloading myself with shit, and this was going to be a case. But, competing was the goal. And its the goal I have always wanted to do and tick off my list.
I consulted my best friend, my trainer and life coach; Shane. I owe everything to this man, he showed me how capable how I was, and had trust and belief in me that I COULD do it.
My total comp prep took 19 weeks;
When I say 'comp prep' I mean I was eating 6 meals a day every 3 hours, protein, limited carbs but still keeping carbs in, veges and a few healthy fats (I struggled to give up my peanut butter)
I slowly had introduced my training, it was BLOODY hard to motivate myself. I can tell you now, I had days when I just couldn't be fucked putting in the work. I'd literally get to the gym, do one set of something and just think "Fuck this!" I wasn't feeling any results, I felt like I was wasting my time, SO I'd just go sit on the couch or go outside and lie on the ground and cry.

This went on for the first 7 weeks of my prep. The diet wasn't too hard, it was just lots of Chicken, Rice, Oats, Protein, Rice cakes, Casein pudding etc.
Slowly as my body weight started dropping, I noticed myself becoming more and more obsessed with how I looked. I was very sensitive to it, had to feel like a certain way each day other wise I 'wasn't on track'. I would check myself daily in the mirrors, constantly be fretting; This was just a bi-product of my Anorexia.

The thing that annoys me, is how people say "Oh it's driving you mentally insane"!
"You shouldn't be doing this, it's not healthy"
"You should eat more carbs" ETC ETC...
You are entitled to your opinion. I don't really care to be honest. I know this is mentally insane for me, because I am a recovering Anorexic. I chose this path, I seeked the best advice and am being guided by someone who TRUSTS me and I TRUST them with my body; This is the biggest thing EVER.
I know I was driving myself into the wall, I'm completely aware of how messed my mind got - it was my choice. I was in control entirely. I was doing the BEST with what I had, at that point in time. I had a goal, and I wasn't going to give in. I respect everyone's choice for 'looking out for me' - but I was willing to do anything and everything to get on that stage.
I needed to challenge the monkey. It was calling my name.

My cardio sessions increased, and my carbs slowly dropped off week by week.
It is amazing looking back at my comp prep now - because it literally blurred into one biigggg mush. I remember defining moments, but It is quite confusing for me when looking back.
I DO however, remember how my obsession with my legs came back.
And it's still here to this day. I'm honestly so self conscious of them, I hate how chunky they get and I literally feel like ripping my skin off some days.

It was 10 weeks out, and I couldn't believe how far I'd come.
All that worrying that I wasn't on track, Literally every week before my check up and weigh in I would get the WORST anxiety, thinking that I wouldn't get a cheat meal and that I wouldn't be able to have my binge that evening; That I would want to do it even if I wasn't allowed. It was the fear of betraying myself. I wanted to make that weigh in so bad, and I did every single week.

Cheat meals were a funny one for me; because of my emotional attachment for food. I wouldn't want to go out to dinner, I'd get anxiety that I wouldn't be able to eat all the food and that I'd be 'missing out on something'. It's the same if I was at home - it was the overwhelming decision of what to eat, that I'd eat it all and just gorge myself until I felt utterly ill, only to wake up feeling like shit the next day. My Sundays were carb free, so by Monday I was feeling fine.

My diet during comp prep was all not roses and petals; seriously, during the week usually on a Wednesday or Monday I would juuuust break and need some food. And it would get to the desperation that I would actually go out of my way down to the shops, buy a packet of rice cakes and peanut butter and honey and just EAT THEM ALL. Literally, in an hour. The afternoon and evening was a right off at work and I would skip my training that evening because I felt so shit.
It was hard to turn it off when I got home, I felt like I'd fucked everything so I'd just go picking at all the food, finding excuses and ways to 'eat'.
So much food, so little time, such lack of desire to gain weight.
Doesn't really work does it?

3 weeks out of comp was the hardest for me - I'd cry for no reason. I had literally just HAD enough. But my partner kept the belief in me that I could do it.
I couldn't get my posing right, I would see myself in the mirror and only ever think of how shit I looked.
I absolutely hated it. I would just burst into tears because I was embarrassed, and nobody knew how to help me. I knew how to help my self, but I didn't want to. It was easier to just let the guilt and hate flow in. It took no effort, it was just consuming.

A week out from comp came - and I could see the light.
It was depletion week, so that meant no carbs, water loading and diuretics. A lot of trainers and coaches will stick their nose up at this, saying it's unhealthy. I didn't care. I had faith in my coach as he was going to get me into my best shape ever, and this is what needed to be done in that final week to get me there.

I had lost a total of around 12kg from when I started, and gone from my heaviest at the start of the year of 26%bf, to my start of comp prep, 19% to my comp weight and %, 13% and 59kg.

Getting on stage, was literally the most empowering and beautiful thing I've experienced. I finally stood on stage; and I had a proud 'Murphy' moment.
I stood on stage, I fucking did it.
And I'd done everything IN MY POWER to do it right this time.
No more lies. No more shortcuts. Just powered through the hard work, which was the hardest thing I've done in my life.

Breaking through an addictive personality, breaking through body image disorder, eating disorder, and actually be able to FOLLOW A PLAN without letting your own self corrupt you; Was unbelievable. I'd put full trust into my trainer, and made it.

I don't ever want to stray or push anyone that's reading this away from competing.
DO IT. It's the most amazing experience, and pushes you in every way possible.
It's not easy, but I can promise you, if you are wanting to challenge yourself in all ways - it is so worth it.
Your going to get hate, your going to get opinions, your going to get pushed and shoved; even by yourself at sometimes. Wherever you go, your skin only grows thicker and the wounds only heal.

It's not cut out for everyone, not everyone makes it. Some people compete once and never compete again, "Oh, I'm not doing that it's so unhealthy and it ruined my body and metabolism."
No, it didn't, you did. Hold yourself accountable. Be realistic. Know your worth.
Too often we lay blame, gosh I used to lay blame on everyone and everything for my body. But I realised; that I'm actually in control the whole time. To either walk away, or keep on powering through.

You may be blind, you may not have all the knowledge in the world - but if you've got the heart and faith in yourself; Then you'll make it.

Post comp has been a different bag of marbles for me... And I think this is going to be one worthy of a fresh blog entry, as I know a lot of you will benefit from reading how mentally disturbing this time can be.

Seriously, just writing this has made me wake the fuck up. If an unemployed, depressed, recovering anorexic and BDE victim can make it to stage; you bloody well can too.
Just TRY.

Thank you once again for reading.
